Contrary to popular belief, online fraudsters do not always run elaborate tactics whose goal is to take hundreds of dollars out of their victims. Sometimes, the tactics they run are very basic and difficult to spot – for example, the 'Please click allow to continue' Pop-Ups scheme has been quite popular in the past few months. This harmless tactic is executed with the help of fake websites that display a bogus prompt, which tells visitors to perform a certain action to view a video or pass a robot check. However, the instructions that the bogus page shows serve a different purpose – they are meant to provide the website with the ability to abuse Web browser notifications.

A variation of this scheme is featured on Cloudstream.bar, a fraudulent page that pretends to host an entertaining piece of media. It tells visitors to 'Click Allow to watch the video' – however, if you follow this instruction, you will not end up seeing any video and, instead, you will allow Cloudstream.bar to display browser notifications.

The notifications this website produces will not have relevant content, and their purpose is to generate revenue for Cloudstream.bar's administrators by promoting paid advertisements. Needless to say, you should not allow this behavior – to get rid of the Cloudstream.bar notifications, you may need to use your Web browser's settings panel to revoke this page's permissions.
