DivisionFormat is a problematic Mac application that may be spread online by using the disguise of an Adobe Flash Player update, or a fake installer for an attractive piece of software. The good news is that falling for DivisionFormat's tricks and installing this software will not be a significant security concern – DivisionFormat is not harmful, and it is not linked to threatening malware. However, while DivisionFormat is present on your Mac device, it may apply persistent changes that affect your Web browser's behavior and performance – DivisionFormat is known to promote 3rd-party search engines by setting them as your Web browser's default search aggregator. Furthermore, DivisionFormat may cause other problems by injecting unwanted advertisements in your active Web browser windows.

DivisionFormat is categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP,) and removing it manually may not be a good choice. While many PUPs can be removed this way, the DivisionFormat Mac PUP is an exception since it also applies changes to the system configuration by setting up a new Launch Daemon and Device Profile – these two changes will persist even after DivisionFormat is removed. This is why PC users should dispose of this PUP by using an up-to-date Mac security application.

To avoid future encounters with Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) by your Mac, you should stay away from shady websites and download locations. Also, remember to fetch updates for popular software only via the software publisher's official website – downloading such content from 3rd-party sites often may introduce unwanted software to your computer.
