DPS Websafe

Posted: July 10, 2020

The DPS Websafe is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) whose name suggests that it will help you browse the Web safely and privately – unfortunately, the DPS Websafe does no such thing, and the only noticeable change that you will see when you install this application is that it will replace your Web browser's default search engine. While this is not a harmful change, it may make it more difficult to find reliable Web search results, and it may also increase the number of advertisements you see while browsing the Web.

When the DPS Websafe is installed, all searches you make through the Web browser's address bar will be redirected to Dpswebsafe.com – in a few seconds, the search will take you to a search results page created by Bing.com. While this works fine, for now, it is possible that the DPS Websafe behavior may change in the future, and it may redirect you to 3rd-party and unreliable search engines. Needless to say, you should not take such risks, and it is recommended to stay away from browser add-ons that try to take over your Web browser's new tab page and search engine.

If the DPS Websafe extension is present on your computer, you should consider removing it with the assistance of a PC security tool capable of eliminating PUPs.
