Dupzom Trojan

Posted: June 3, 2020

The Dupzom Trojan is a relatively old threat that was first categorized in 2009 – however, it has been modernized throughout the years, and one of the latest major updates is from 2015. Despite the ongoing improvements, the purpose of the Dupzom Trojan is almost always the same – to serve as a first-stage payload that will then introduce additional malware to the compromised host. Often, the activity of the Dupzom Trojan may be delayed – this means that once it is up and running, it may not download the secondary payload immediately. Instead, it may work in the background for a couple of days before proceeding with the next stage of the attack. Dupzom Trojan gains persistence on compromised systems by adding a Registry key, which commands Windows to load up the Dupzom Trojan when the operating system starts.

The Dupzom Trojan often may be used in combination with various Remote Access Trojans (RATs), ransomware, backdoor Trojans or infostealers. Needless to say, while the Dupzom Trojan is not a threat on its own, it is guaranteed to bring very threatening malware to the computers it infects. The best way to be sure that your system is protected from the Dupzom Trojan and the other threats it brings is to use an up-to-date anti-malware service.

In addition to relying on good security software, you also should try to be careful with the files you interact with – avoid downloading files from unknown sources, especially ones that are linked to the propagation of pirated software and media.
