ExecutiveOperation

Posted: November 5, 2020

ExecutiveOperation is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that does not have an official website, vendor or download location. Instead, it appears to be distributed via misleading prompts, fake downloads, and even software bundles, which try to sneak the ExecutiveOperation PUP into computers. The good news is that ExecutiveOperation is not unsafe by any means. However, it can prove to be quite a nuisance because of the negative changes it brings to computers.

The fundamental purpose of this PUP is to replace the default Web browser's search engine and new tab page with a 3rd-party search aggregator like Search.basicgeneration.com. While there is nothing threatening about this action, many users might be surprised and worried about an unknown website's sudden appearance in their browser.

The ExecutiveOperation appears to target macOS devices exclusively, and it has the ability to affect the settings of the Safari Web browser. Removing this PUP manually is not recommended because it would be difficult to get rid of all of its components. Users affected by ExecutiveOperation's changes should consider running a macOS-compatible security scanner, which can ensure the full termination of ExecutiveOperation's files.
