'FBI CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION' Pop-Up Scam

Posted: August 5, 2020

The 'FBI CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION' pop-up scam is harmless if you do not interact with it. However, if you fall for some of the lies that these corrupted pop-ups contain, you may get involved in a threatening tactic, accidentally, whose end-goal is to collect money, information or payment details from the victim. This tactic is executed with the help of website pop-ups that may show up in your browser when you spend some time browsing shady websites such as the one used to spread pirated software and games, illicit sports streams, adult videos, etc.

The fraudulent pop-ups that this tactic uses are branded with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) logo, and their goal is to trick users into thinking that they have broken several Internet-related federal laws. Some of the violations that the 'FBI CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION' pop-up scam mentions are spamming, child abuse, and various pornography-related violations. Finally, victims are told that this warning might be showing because hackers have breached their device's security and are using it to access the alleged content. Unfortunately, many people fall for this trick, and are ready to do just about anything to avoid future problems – this is where the fraudsters ask the victim to contact 'Google Support' for further information by calling 800-974-4062. Allegedly, a call to the 'Google Support' team can help them resolve the security breach, and solve the law issues that the pop-ups mention.

Everything that these pop-ups tell you is a lie:

  • The FBI or another law enforcement bureau will not redirect you to a website accusing you of crimes. Websites that claim to contain such information are corrupted.
  • 'Google Support' only deals with Google products and unknown websites that ask you to call a 'technical support' team should never be trusted.
  • The phone number 800-974-4062 is reported for being linked with different schemes.

Users who fall for the 'FBI CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION' pop-up scam and call the con artists may be told to pay a fee, purchase an expensive software product, or pay for the services of the fake support team. Needless to say, you should never accept such offers coming from unknown sources.

If the 'FBI CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION' pop-up scam shows up while you browse the Web, you should ignore its lies, and leave the website immediately.
