'FedEx Parcel' Email Scam
Online con artists and malware developers often rely on bogus email messages to expose their targets to harmful content. Often, the topic they choose for their emails is related to pending parcel deliveries, package notifications, and other information provided by well-known delivery companies like FedEx, DHL, USPS and others. One of the most popular scams of this sort is the so-called 'FedEx Parcel' email scam.
The fraudulent message claims to inform the victim of a newly arrived parcel that is yet to be collected. Of course, the victim is not expecting a delivery, so they have no idea what kind of package they have received – the email takes advantage of this by offering to provide them with more information about the product by downloading an invoice accompanied by additional information. The file attachment, however, is not a legitimate document – it contains threatening malware like Remote Access Trojans (RATs,) banking Trojans or spyware.
If you ever receive a delivery notification when you do not expect any parcel to arrive for you, then you should remember that this might be a scam. We advise you not to download any of the attached files and to contact the parcel delivery company to see if you really need to pick up any delivery.
