'FedEx Tracking' Email Scam
The 'FedEx Tracking' email scam is a deceptive technique that cybercriminals may use to propagate computer threats such as keyloggers, ransomware, infostealers and Trojans. These emails claim to contain urgent information regarding a pending FedEx delivery – users may be told to download a file that is either attached to the message or hosted on an external server. Of course, the fraudsters behind the 'FedEx Tracking' email scam will tell the recipient that the document contains important details about the delivery and it needs their immediate attention. To make the whole thing appear legitimate and believable, the file will almost always appear to be an archive, PDF or a Microsoft Office document – file types that the user is likely to trust.
Such fraudulent email messages are one of the favorite methods that cybercriminals use to propagate malware regularly. We advise you to be extra cautious when dealing with emails that ask you to download files – make sure that your anti-virus software is running and up-to-date before proceeding with such tasks. You also should double-check the senders' email address to see if they are not pretending to be someone else – often, cybercriminals may register fake domains like 'fedex-tracking-online.com' to trick users into thinking that they received an official FedEx email.
If you are not expecting a FedEx shipment and you receive one of these emails, then it is recommended to report & remove it, as it is very likely to be associated with fraudulent activity.
