FlickerStealer
FlickerStealer is a threatening piece of malware whose author has opted to sell it to like-minded cybercriminals in exchange for regular payments. According to their advertisement, the FlickerStealer malware is capable of collecting the following data from compromised computers:
- Databases of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge and over 30 other Web browsers.
- Various cryptocurrency wallets.
- Data from the Windows Credentials Manager.
- Credentials for FTP clients like WinSCP and FileZilla.
- Files used by the Steam gaming platform.
- Session files used by Pidgin, Telegram and Discord.
On top of targeting a wide range of software, the FlickerStealer can also grab screenshots and extract information about the infected system's software and hardware. The FlickerStealer project is very threatening, and, unfortunately, it is probably a matter of time before it starts being abused by cybercriminals who have the resources to propagate it worldwide.
The affordable price of the FlickerStealer malware makes it even more threatening since any hacker with a bit of money can use it immediately. It is likely that the customers of FlickerStealer will abuse propagation techniques of all sorts to reach potential victims – email spam, fake downloads, pirated games, software activators and more.
Infostealers are exceptionally threatening due to their ability to work undetected and hijack the victim's login credentials for various sites and services silently. To keep your system and data guarded against such threats, you need to protect your computer with a reputable anti-virus product.
