FormatBoost, or FormatBoostd, is part of a large batch of macOS-compatible suspicious applications. Recently, thousands of macOS users around the globe have reported seeing a message saying that various software will damage their computer – e.g. 'FormatBoost Will Damage Your Computer.' Of course, seeing such a message can be very worrisome, especially when you have no idea what FormatBoost is or how it got to your computer in the first place. The good news is that FormatBoost is not categorized as harmful software, and it does not appear to boast any malicious properties. Regardless of this, it still qualifies as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). Reputable anti-virus products will recommend its removal.

While FormatBoost will not cause major issues, it can still be a nuisance to deal with. The software is known to drop its files in multiple directories, as well as hidden folders, therefore making it an impossible task to manually track down and delete all of its components. Failure to remove FormatBoost may result in:

  • Seeing the 'FormatBoost Will Damage Your Computer' regularly.
  • Having your browser settings modified, so that you will be redirected to unknown websites.
  • Seeing extra ads while using your Web browser.

You should never keep unknown and unwanted software on your computer. To remove FormatBoost reliably, you need to run an up-to-date macOS security tool.
