FRat Malware
The FRat Malware is a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) that was discovered by malware researchers recently. Its operators seem to rely on fraudulent emails to reach their victims, and they often go after companies and institutions. However, it is safe to say that regular users might become the target of the FRat Malware as well. Falling victim to this threat might not bring any visible changes to your computer's behavior – this is because this implant is meant to work in the background, and provide attackers with the ability to perform harmful actions on your computer.
In general, RATs are capable of collecting files and information from compromised systems, and they usually feature a wide range of modules that extend their functionality even further. In the case of the FRat Malware, it is able to list and browse directories, execute remote commands, manage running processes, and control Windows services. Naturally, the FRat Malware also enables its attackers to download and run files on the infected system, therefore allowing them to plant additional malware such as specialized infostealers, keyloggers and more.
It is advisable to use an automated anti-malware service that will scan incoming files for harmful traits, and prevent them from running in case it notices anything suspicious. Of course, it also is a good idea to remember how to avoid potentially harmful files – do not interact with random email attachments from unknown senders and never engage with pirated software or media.
