Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

FreezeTheApp is a browser extension that creates revenue for its developers by exposing its users to additional Web advertisements. Although FreezeTheApp may include useful features, the security and performance issues related to its advertising force malware researchers to classify FreezeTheApp as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). PC users wishing to delete FreezeTheApp should use qualified anti-adware tools in light of any resistance on this software's part to being uninstalled, as is common for similar adware products.
The Application that's Chilling Your Browser to the Bone
FreezeTheApp is a new adware program that, like many seen this year, specializes in delivering advertising content to the Chrome browser. While claiming to provide features for blocking or disabling any unwanted software, FreezeTheApp, itself, provides typically unwanted functions, such as pop-ups and injected advertisement links. Any system running Chrome is vulnerable to FreezeTheApp's modifications, although malware experts have noted that FreezeTheApp's marketing could indicate a predilection towards mobile phone users.
FreezeTheApp may install itself with an extension format while also concealing its extension entry from Chrome's internal settings menu. Symptoms that malware experts have verified as being displayed in most FreezeTheApp advertisements samples may include:
- Chrome may redirect itself to other Web pages, including those of FreezeTheApp's advertisement affiliates. These redirects normally trigger after the Web surfer interacts with a link to an unrelated page (such as a search result).
- FreezeTheApp also may launch pop-up windows separately from your main browser window. These pop-ups may include other affiliate advertisements.
- The advertisement discrimination process in FreezeTheApp also may select advertisements according to your browser history, such as which sites you visit or what search terms you use. FreezeTheApp's constant monitoring of your browser activities may cause significant slowdown and related quality-of-life problems. However, FreezeTheApp does not monitor passwords or other, legally-protected information.
Thawing Your Browser out of FreezeTheApp
Despite FreezeTheApp being a supposedly benign browser app, FreezeTheApp may use distribution models more common to unwanted software than to intentionally installed products. You are most likely to have your browser modified by FreezeTheApp after having installed free software from an unsafe source. These sources may include freeware websites with adware-favoring reputations and file resources that emphasize software piracy, such as torrents. Some of these bundles may allow you to opt out of installing FreezeTheApp, although FreezeTheApp rarely offers itself as a default option.
FreezeTheApp sacrifices the security and performance of your browser in return for features that predominantly benefit its developers, but not its users. Like any PUP, removing FreezeTheApp is recommended for any PC users who don't have exceptional motivations for leaving the application on their machines. You may circumvent FreezeTheApp's consistent history of hiding its files and extension entries with anti-adware products that should identify FreezeTheApp without any issues when scanning your machine.
