Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

GDSMux is one part of the Haali Media Splitter: a free utility for interpreting media files. Although GDSMux does not have any threatening functions, GDSMux sometimes is installed automatically through bundles that have been known to include other Potentially Unwanted Programs less beneficial than itself. Currently, malware researchers see no drawbacks to keeping GDSMux on your PC, but recommend uninstalling GDSMux if you do not use GDSMux. Anti-adware and anti-malware utilities also may be needed to make sure that all software related to GDSMux also has been removed.
When Your Browser Gets Split While You are Splitting Media
In the realm of media playback, most PC users are familiar with MP3s and AVIs, but fewer than that know what's needed for playing MKV files. Although MKV files play a similar purpose to other movie file formats, they require specialized tools, such as the Haali Media Splitter and GDSMux, to separate (or 'split') and interpret the necessary subtitle, audio and video streams. GDSMux is one of the components of that package and includes features for the playback of MKV and M2TS files. Greatly in contrast to most other applications analyzed by malware researchers, GDSMux performs all of its stated functions and does not include any undesirable features, such as browser hijacks or invasive advertisements.
Although, on its own, GDSMux does not have any negative traits worth in terms of PC security, GDSMux is sometimes installed, along with the rest of the Haali Media Splitter suite, through freeware bundles. Bundles with GDSMux also have been known for installing Delta Search hijackers, which modify your homepage and search engine to redirect you to other websites. These bundle-based installers also have been implicated in adware campaigns and a variety of other campaigns for installing suspicious, threatening and unwanted browser add-ons.
Getting Your Browser Back from an Unwanted File Split
GDSMux does not need to be treated as a threatening file, and, unlike most PUPs, has no mentionable security drawbacks. You can use your own judgment about deciding whether to keep GDSMux installed or remove GDSMux. GDSMux's functions are specialized, but have a legitimate place for digital media aficionados, and do not include the invasive functions that define many PUPs.
However, this comes with a caveat: if there is an automatic installation of GDSMux, you should be alert of the possibility for other, more threatening PUPs than GDSMux being installed through the same bundle-based methods. Malware researchers do recommend removing the Delta Search hijacker and all related add-ons that try to take control of your browser's content. PC security programs with functions meant to detect and remove adware, browser hijackers, unwanted toolbars and other Potentially Unwanted Programs can be trusted to remove unwanted software related to GDSMux..
