'Hacker who cracked your email and device' Scam

Posted: October 24, 2018

The 'Hacker who cracked your email and device' scam is a new type of email spam that appears to have gained popularity among online con artists in the past couple of months. Unlike some other tactics, this one does not include the use of Web browser pop-ups or harmful software – the con artists behind it use simple email messages to try and extort their victims for money.

The targets of the 'Hacker who cracked your email and device' scam are likely to be chosen on a random basis, and the whole thing happens via a simple email message, which tells them that their computers have been compromised by the hacker who sent the message in question. They state that they have been spying on the victim’s browsing habits, and have paid close attention to them when they visit pages that host adult content. They continue by lying to the victim and telling them that they have secretly recorded private and humiliating Web camera footage of them, and the videos will be sent out to the victim’s colleagues, friends, and family unless they agree to meet the demands of the con artist.

The con artists demand a ransom payment of $892, and they instruct the victim to complete the payment via a Bitcoin transfer. You should know that if you ever receive a message like this and anonymous hackers threaten to leak your personal information or embarrassing pictures and videos of you, it is likely to be a bluff whose purpose is to trick you into paying them the money they ask for. If you encounter the 'Hacker who cracked your email and device' scam, you should simply ignore it.
