Highqualitypolice.net

Posted: January 9, 2014

Block.highqualitypolice.net is a website used by the attacks of fake Police Trojans, such as the West Mercia Police Ukash Virus or 'Police Nationale Francaise' Ransomware. Compromised PCs are shown a legal alert from Block.highqualitypolice.net to implicate them (falsely) in illegal online activities while their systems are locked. Block.highqualitypolice.net requests a money transfer to unlock the PC, but this typical ransomware-based strategy is illegal and never should be trusted as a means of resolving the situation. If you see a pop-up from Block.highqualitypolice.net or visit Block.highqualitypolice.net through any other circumstance, malware experts urge you to use proven anti-malware products to disinfect your computer.

What to Do When the Malware 'Police' are After You

Block.highqualitypolice.net is one of multiple domains in use by criminals for the purpose of initiating the attacks of Police Ransomware Trojans, piracy ransomware Trojans, and similar threats that claim to be authorized by law-enforcing institutions. Most PC threats involved in these attacks may be installed through any of several less than consensual methods, after which they begin their ransom campaign on your computer:

  • Your PC may be locked by preventing you from launching other applications. In some cases, the majority of the operating system's interface, such as the Taskbar, also may be inaccessible.
  • After it locks your PC, the Trojan may launch a browser window that designates Block.highqualitypolice.net or a similar unreliable site, such as Block.policeprotector.biz, Error.servepolice.biz or Error.safestep-police.net. The site in question will display a warning message that A) insists that your PC has been used for various illegal activities, and B) demand a real money transfer to unlock your computer. These pop-ups may be modified so that they take up your entire desktop and can't be closed.

As one of the websites that malware researchers have seen involved in these sordid campaigns, Block.highqualitypolice.net should be considered a direct threat to your PC, rather than an emissary of any police department. Paying the ransom demanded by Block.highqualitypolice.net is ill-advised and, in any case, will not resolve the system-locking attacks that are in place.

A High Quality Solution to a High Quality Trojan Attack

Windows locker Trojans that are prone to using Block.highqualitypolice.net and similar domains are notorious for their difficulty of removal. However, the catch that criminals wouldn't like you to realize is that disabling the associated Trojan will re-allow you to access any blocked aspects of your PC, including your other programs. The easiest and cheapest way of doing this is to launch into Safe Mode or use a clean USB device to load your OS, after which a good anti-malware program should be able to delete the Trojan.

Block.highqualitypolice.net is meant to host the pop-up that's loaded for PCs that already are infected, but also may be risky to visit. Because threat-related sites have a constant risk of exposing your computer to exploit kits and other PC threats, malware researchers would suggest that you scan your computer after any contact with Block.highqualitypolice.net or any other site that has confirmed threat connections.
