HonkBox

HonkBox is a detection name used for a piece of macOS malware that users may have no idea is residing on their computers. The payload may be delivered via a fake email attachment, fake download, pirated content or other suspicious downloads. Once deployed, HonkBox works in the background to manipulate the operating system and software in different ways. For example, it may redirect the user to ad-ridden websites, tactics and other shady content.

Users who came across HonkBox state that the removal of the intrusive software may be a difficult task since it seems to plant its files in multiple hidden directories. If your macOS security product reports HonkBox, then you should remove it immediately.
