'How to Rollback NVIDIA Drivers in Windows'

Posted: January 12, 2021

Updating your video card drivers is always recommended, but some users might experience issues when updating the latest version of NVIDIA's drivers. This is an especially common problem if you are using an older video card that might have some incompatibility with the newest features in NVIDIA's drivers. If you face such problems, you should know that you can rollback NVIDIA drivers in Windows to get rid of such issues.

Use the Device Manager to Rollback NVIDIA Drivers

One way to complete the task is to navigate to the Windows Device Manager through the Start Menu. Once there, expand the 'Display Adapters' section and find your primary graphics card – it should usually be called NVIDIA, followed by some numbers and an abbreviation. Right-click it, select 'Properties' and then open the 'Driver' tab. There, you click the 'Roll Back Driver' button to initialize the process.

Remove the New Driver and Install an Old OneManually

This method requires a bit more time, but it is even more efficient as it can reset the driver's configuration completely and minimize the risk of the issues from showing up again. You should navigate to the 'Control Panel' > 'Programs & Features' section to uninstall the current NVIDIA Graphics Driver. Then, head to NVIDIA's official website, and use their 'Driver Finder' section to find the appropriate drivers for your video card. You also will have a chance to find and download old NVIDIA drivers. Once the download is complete, run the NVIDIA driver installer to complete the task. You will need to reload your machine after uninstalling the driver and then again after installing the old version.
