Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

The IB Updater Service is a program associated with browser add-ons from the Perion company – add-ons that SpywareRemove.com malware experts, unfortunately, have categorized as adware, browser hijackers and (at best) Potentially Unwanted Programs. These browser add-ons usually promoted unwanted sites by changing your homepage or redirecting your Web searches, and SpywareRemove.com malware experts recommend removing them as a regular part of keeping your own control over your browser secured. Although the IB Updater Service does not have any malicious functions of its own, the IB Updater Service should be removed along with the Perion add-ons related to the IB Updater Service, which usually can be done most effectively by any basic anti-malware program's system scan.
The IB Updater Service: Updating All the Plugins You Shouldn't Need in the First Place
The IB Updater Service's only job is to update toolbars and browser add-ons from the Perion company, and, as such, only is harmful in the sense that the IB Updater Service is related to these other applications and may update them to include additional unwanted features without your permission. Based on SpywareRemove.com malware researchers' previous experience with this product line, some products related to IB Updater Service include IncrediMail, Photojoy, SweetiM and Smilebox – all of which modify your browser in undesirable ways, in addition to providing minor features. Common issues related to these PC threats include:
- Having your browser's homepage hijacked and locked to another Web page.
- Having your online searches redirected to Perion-affiliated websites.
- Being forced to install all 'features' of a Perion toolbar regardless of whether or not you checked the relevant installation options.
- Difficulties in removing Perion browser add-ons.
- Suffering from a loss of confidential information, particularly personal account data for Facebook and Facebook-based contacts.
Telling the IB Updater Service Where It Can Stick Its Idea of Service
Despite the many negatives surrounding the IB Updater Service, SpywareRemove.com malware experts have verified that the IB Updater Service doesn't attempt to hide itself and usually should be detectable from the Windows Task Manager (as the file ExtensionUpdaterService.exe) – along with the obvious browser add-ons related to the IB Updater Service. The most surefire way of removing all browser changes and other components related to IB Updater Service's presence on your PC is to use anti-malware products to scan your computer and delete IB Updater Service along with any browser add-ons that have come with the IB Updater Service.
SpywareRemove.com malware researchers categorize most browser add-ons related to the IB Updater Service as low-level PC threats, but also felt the need to put an additional warning forth regarding the Perion company's website, perion.com. Because this site, besides providing its browser add-ons, also has been labeled as an infection vector for the worm I-Worm/Nimda.A, you should avoid any unnecessary contact with it and use all appropriate browser security features to prevent any possible infections. The Nimda family of worms also can spread via e-mail spam and local networks, in addition to compromising Web pages. However, I-Worm/Nimda A has not been found to be linked to the IB Updater Service directly.
