InitialSkill

Posted: February 24, 2021

InitialSkill is an intrusive Mac application that users are likely to install accidentally because it tends to be propagated through software bundling, fake installers, misleading advertisements and other shady tricks. The goal of InitialSkill is to drop its files on the computer and then plant them in multiple hidden folders, therefore making its removal a difficult task. Furthermore, the InitialSkill Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) may tamper with macOS 'Device Profiles' and 'Launch Daemon' to grant itself persistence, as well as modify the behavior of other software – typically Web browsers.

This PUP promotes 3rd-party sites by configuring them as the Web browser's default homepage, new tab page or search engine. This means that users with InitialSkill running on their computers may experience frequent, unexpected redirects to unknown and unreliable sites.

To keep PUPs like InitialSkill away from your macOS computer, we suggest installing and activating a reputable security tool. It also is recommended to stay away from unknown downloads and websites with questionable reputations.
