The Instagram virus dates back to 2018 where it was known to initiate from aggressive phishing campaigns that specifically target Instagram users. The actions of the Instagram virus rooted from spam email messages that may have contained links that redirected browsers to phishing sites where Instagram users were asked to give their login details as they may have suspected they landed on a legitimate site that requires their login.

By giving the login credentials up on a spoofed site, the Instagram virus campaign becomes successful and relinquishes the details to remote hackers that then use the login details to access accounts. Through such access, hackers may leverage the compromised accounts and spread bogus information through images and other bogus accounts eventually leading users to malicious sites or ones designed to earn money from click or impression campaigns.

Removal of Instagram virus is important to avoid the dangers of landing on a clever phishing site, which can be done by using an antimalware resource. Protecting systems from threats like Instagram virus can also be done using updated and trusted antimalware programs as well.
