IsMiner

Posted: March 23, 2017

IsMiner is a legitimate application that may be used to mine various cryptocurrencies. There are many free tools and utilities that perform this action, and nearly all of them are considered to be reliable and used for potentially harmful purposes rarely. However, IsMiner may sometimes be falsely used since some evil-minded users might distribute it via software bundles, and install it without the knowledge of their potential 'victims.' When IsMiner is installed this way, it may modify the Windows Registry automatically so that it will be started with Windows. In addition to this, whenever IsMiner is operating, it will put a lot of load on the computer's video card to execute it's crypto-currency mining operations. This may not only affect the computer's performance in graphic-intensive applications but also may shorten the lifespan of the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) by keeping it under load constantly.

It might be difficult for users to notice that IsMiner is running on their computers because this software does not display any suspicious behavior. The only noticeable changes it may bring is the presence of 'isminer.exe' in the running processes, as well as the fact that the computer may perform poorly in games since IsMiner uses most of the video card's resources. It is strongly recommended to remove IsMiner if you did not install and run it on purpose, because the unwanted installations of IsMiner may use your computer's processing power to make money for the person who brought IsMiner to your computer.

Since IsMiner may be distributed with software bundles or low-quality download managers, users should remember to be more careful when installing software they are not familiar with. The installation of software like IsMiner may often be avoided by simply reading the installation instructions and declining to install IsMiner.
