Lotoor Description

Lotoor is the name of an Android malware family that appears to be most active in the Russian region – over 32% of devices infected by the Lotoor malware are located there. However, this is not the only part of the world that the Lotoor Android malware operates it – it also has plenty of victims in India, Germany, the USA, Vietnam, Brazil and other countries.

The purpose of the Lotoor malware is to plant its files on the victim's device silently and then attempt to use a variety of exploits that may enable it to gain administrative permissions by taking advantage of vulnerabilities in the device's software. If the Lotoor malware manages to gain elevated permissions, it will provide its operator with the capability of executing remote commands on the infected device. This may be used to:

  • Disable security features.
  • Exfiltrate data.
  • Plant additional malware.
  • Modify the device's configuration.
  • Manage applications, files, and services.
