Maps2Go

Maps2Go is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) for devices running the Mac OSX. As the name of the program suggests, it is meant to help the users by providing them with access to neat online maps and giving them the ability to take advantage of tools that can help them plan routes and trips. However, there are some shady things about the way Maps2Go operates. For starters, it appears to be often propagated via software bundles that the users may come across thanks to misleading advertisements and pop-ups. While the software in question is safe, it may include offers to install 3rd-party tools like Maps2Go and other PUPs.

If the users agree to the Maps2Go’s installation, they may quickly find out that there are certain Terms and Conditions they must accept when they install this application. One of them, in particular, is rather invasive since it demands permission to tamper with the configuration of the default system Web browser by settings its default search aggregator to Search.regevpop.com. This change is not something to be worried about since it is not threatening, but it might worsen the users’ browsing experience by forcing them to use a search engine that they are not used to.

Search.regevpop.com delivers results by using the Yahoo Search so that the results it displays should be credible for most of the time. However, the users should know that Search.regevpop.com may display a search results page that also contains an increased amount of advertising content. It is recommended to stay away from programs that demand to modify your browser’s new tab page or search page – if you encounter one of these, you should cancel their installation. If you have already installed Maps2Go and wish to remove it, you can do this manually or with the use of a PC security tool.
