Mattempts.info

Posted: March 4, 2020

If you ever come across the website Mattempts.info, then you will be exposed to one of the basic schemes it hosts indeed – the site has several pages dedicated to trying to hijack your browser's notifications. Mattempts.info attempts to achieve this by displaying bogus instructions, and saying that the users must complete them to confirm that they are not robots. The aforementioned instructions sound very simple and straightforward - Mattempts.info simply asks you to click the 'Allow' button on the prompt you see. However, what it might not mention is that this button is not used to pass a robot check and, instead, it is meant to allow the website to display browser notifications. Needless to say, a site that uses such shady tricks to get your permission to display notifications will not end up using this feature for good – instead, it will abuse your browser's notifications to serve a never-ending stream of advertisements that promote all content kinds.

Even if the users spot Mattempts.info's scheme and try to leave the website, the page will spawn another pop-up, which tells them that all they need to do to leave the page is to click 'Allow.' Clearly, the administrators of the website are very desperate to make their tactic work, and they resort to all tricks to make this possible.

Thankfully, tech-savvy and vigilant users are likely to spot the fraudulent scheme and ignore Mattempts.info's warnings. If you are being bothered by Mattempts.info's notifications, then you probably have fallen for the simple tactic that this page promotes. Thankfully, this issue can be resolved by removing Mattempts.info's permissions to display notifications – this is done through your Web browser's settings.
