The Microcosm New Tab is a browser extension that promises to provide users with a beautiful replacement for their default new tab page. The replacement is supposed to provide them with a customizable homepage, a collection of editable bookmarks, as well as a weather widget that can give them the current weather conditions in various locations around the world. Although some users might find this useful, the Microcosm New Tab is identified as a Potentially Unwanted Program, and its installation may not be a good idea since it does not offer any valuable features.
The search features of Microcosm New Tab should not cause any problems since the search field found on the new tab page refers users to search results provided by Google. The authors of the Microcosm New Tab, however, appear to use a sneaky trick to make their software more difficult to notice – the icon of the Microcosm New Tab extension is identical to the homepage icon that Google Chrome uses.
Having Microcosm New Tab on your computer is not a reason to be worried since the extension is safe. However, if you don't want to continue using the new tab page it promotes, then it is recommended to take the necessary action to uninstall Microcosm New Tab from the computer. This can be performed via the Chrome's extension manager, or by using a suitable computer security tool.
