Native-search.com

Posted: October 22, 2013

Native-search.com is a clone of Search.fbdownloader.com, both of which are sites dedicated to promoting a Facebook photo-downloading utility and providing search engine-related functions for that same program. Although the results from Native-search.com's searches give every appearance of being safe, malware experts sometimes find the FBDownloader program being installed without requesting your permission, which may result in unwanted redirects to Native-search.com or Search.fbdownloader.com. Regardless of the nature of the site you're being redirected to, you should delete programs redirecting you to Native-search.com or other websites without any hesitation. The use of anti-malware tools for the uninstall process also is strongly advised as a means of verifying that all browser changes have been fully undone.

When Going Native About Your Searches Means Losing Control of Your Browser

Native-search.com is a search site that provides legitimate results but does so while also promoting the FBDownloader utility, a Potentially Unwanted Program that modifies the default search settings of most major brands of Web browsers. These modifications force your Web searches to redirect to Native-search.com and other FBDownloader-affiliated sites, and have no advantages for you as a PC user. Even though FBDownloader doesn't display any other negative side effects, these browser changes are sufficient to categorize FBDownloader as a browser hijacker and PUP that usually should be removed from your computer no matter how useful you find its Facebook features.

So far, Native-search.com hijacks have been found to affect Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers. It also is worth noting that Native-search.com, like similar search sites, also uses tracking cookies to generate revenue from its traffic. While tracking cookies don't monitor confidential information and don't harm your PC, they may be considered invasive by online privacy advocates and, just like Native-search.com, don't provide any advantages for your Web-surfing activities.

Getting out of the Native-search.com Jungle

If you've installed (either by accident or on purpose) FBDownloader or are seeing your browser being attacked by another variant of Native-search.com hijacker, your computer should be treated as being potentially at risk, even though Native-search.com doesn't host or promote harmful content on its own. The easiest ways to make sure that your browser changes are reversed for allowing you to designate other sites besides Native-search.com for searches all involve the use of anti-malware programs to delete FBDownloader and related browser hijackers, along with basic security techniques like booting via Safe Mode.

Programs that promote Native-search.com – along with many other search sites – usually are installed through software bundles. These bundles often give you an option to disable the browser hijacker's installation – but only if you pay attention enough to see it in the first place. As a backup fail-safe, you also may contemplate the viability of anti-malware products that can identify and block known PUPs like those that promote Native-search.com.
