OptimalSync

Posted: August 25, 2020

OptimalSync is a troublesome Mac application that cannot cause any harm, but it may bring intrusive and persistent changes to your Web browser's configuration and functionality. This application is not distributed via an official website or download location, and it does not appear to be backed up by any software publisher. Instead, the shady program is being spread via software bundles, fake downloads and false advertising. Users who try to install OptimalSync may introduce a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) to their systems unknowingly.

Once OptimalSync is up and running on a Mac computer, it will configure a new 'Launch Daemon' to make sure that its files will keep running if the system is restarted. It also tampers with the 'Device Profile' section to apply persistent changes to the Safari Web browser. The changes in question are meant to redirect the user to 3rd-party sites when they try to load a new tab or search the Web.

This PUP should be removed from your Mac by using a suitable OSX security tool. Removing the software manually may be challenging since it makes an effort to obfuscate its components, and spread them across several directories.
