'Order Error' Email Scam

Posted: February 11, 2021

Both online fraudsters and malware developers often rely on misleading emails to bring threatening content to their potential victims. One of the latest tactics of this sort involves a fake error about a non-existent online order. The so-called 'Order Error' email scam targets online shop owners, and it informs them that a 'customer' recently tried to make a purchase but their card was declined. However, they claim that they were charged $149 even though the order failed to complete. These people then prompt the shop owner to reimburse $149 to their accounts. They even attach a fake bank statement, which is supposed to back their claim. Shop owners who do not review the case properly may end up being fooled into paying $149 that they do not really own.

Fake emails of this type are often used to propagate tactics and viruses, but the 'Order Error' email scam has a very unique approach by targeting online shops exclusively. If you do online business and saw an unexpected email about an 'order error' recently, then you might be the target of this tactic. We advise you to review the situation carefully and delete the message if you have many reasons to believe that this is not truthful.
