Orion.zerohorizon.net is a website with recent evidence tying Orion.zerohorizon.net to campaigns for hijacking Web browsers. Although malware experts have found no threatening content at Orion.zerohorizon.net, you should consider all links or offers promoted by this site with all due caution. Orion.zerohorizon.net redirects and pop-ups may be related to the presence of adware or threatening software, both of which are removable with relevant PC security programs.

A Surprisingly Familiar Glance at the Web-Browsing Horizon

Being a favorite browser well-known for its safety standards does come with inherent drawbacks, such as the authors of harmful and unwanted software producing more add-ons specific to that browser. Just as Trojans often target the Windows OS, malware experts frequently note new forms of extensions and add-ons modifying the Chrome browser. One of the last of these threats has been responsible for a browser hijacking campaign focusing on promoting Orion.zerohorizon.net and some unrelated sites, such as buy-targeted-traffic.com and ojooo.com.

Both French and English-speaking PC owners have been affected by this campaign, with its distribution model having a close correlation with the presence of pirated software (including key generators, 'cracks' and other threatening apps). Symptoms affecting Chrome and no other browsers to date may include:

  • Pop-up windows may launch automatically, loading Orion.zerohorizon.net or another sub-domain of the website.
  • Your homepage settings may be set to Orion.zerohorizon.net automatically and locked at that value.

Most PC users also reported seeing additional tabs for other sites. None of these Chrome hijackings to date have resulted in contact with threats, and malware experts have seen no harmful content on Orion.zerohorizon.net, including any of the most common browser exploits. However, Orion.zerohorizon.net does include promotional content for Windows upgrade giveaways that may harvest e-mail addresses or other credentials for spamming purposes or selling to organizations.

Putting a Constellation Back in Its Place

Browsers that are being forced to load any unwanted website, even recognized non-threatening domains like Orion.zerohorizon.net, may be subjected to other security issues that, in turn, may endanger the rest of your computer. With the increasing amount of unwanted software using Chrome as a means of redirecting Web traffic towards their personal goals, Chrome users should stay aware of the symptoms noted here, and take action against them with promptness. There are no toolbars or other browser products linked to Orion.zerohorizon.net hijackers, and you may see no installed program entries related to this threat.

Before deleting an Orion.zerohorizon.net hijacker, restart your computer, using the Safe Mode boot option to prevent unwanted software from launching. While your browser remains closed, scan your PC with the anti-adware or anti-malware product you choose, removing any relevant results. Your default Chrome settings menu also includes additional options for resetting your homepage, managing search engines, removing extensions, and taking other actions that may be required for cleaning up after browser-hijacking software.

Although there's no proof of any direct threatening activity in association with Orion.zerohorizon.net, malware experts do recommend using official Microsoft links for all PC users interested in upgrading their Windows OS.
