Home Malware Programs Browser Hijackers Privatetab.org

Privatetab.org

Privatetab.org is a dodgy search engine that is being promoted via a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that gets installed as an extension for popular Web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The extension is likely to be promoted via online advertisements and pop-ups, which describe it as a privacy-enhancing utility that will help you stay anonymous online, and prevent your search queries from being used for marketing campaigns. However, the way that the add-on does this is not user-friendly – it will replace your default search engine and New Tab page with Privatetab.org. This means that you will be taken to Privatetab.org whenever you initiate a new Web search through the address bar or when you open a new tab.

While using Privatetab.org is safe, you should know that it might not provide results that are accurate as the ones found on Google, Bing, Yahoo and other popular search aggregators. If this does not bother you, then you are free to carry on using Privatetab.org since it is not a security concern. However, if Privatetab.org was set as your default new tab page and search engine without your approval, then we suggest that you identify the cause of the issue and remove it immediately. The easiest way to accomplish this is to use a suitable PC security utility.
