ProductiveOperation

Posted: July 8, 2020

ProductiveOperation is a fake and useless application that may be marketed towards Mac users via fake advertisements or software bundles with confusing instructions. Often, this program might be installed by accident when Mac users are trying to install free software such as media converters, PDF readers, torrent clients, etc. Once ProductiveOperation is installed, it will manipulate the default system Web browser's configuration so that it redirects the user to 'Safe Finder' whenever they try to search the Web.

Trying to uninstall ProductiveOperation manually may not be enough to revert the changes it brought, because this Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) will execute some additional tasks to ensure that its changes will be persistent:

It creates a new Mac 'Launch Daemon' to ensure that its files will be loaded when the operating system starts.
It sets up a new 'Device Profile' that is meant to keep 'Safe Finder' as the default search engine that the Web browser uses.

If you are experiencing the issues described above, we advise you to scan your Mac with the help of a compatible anti-malware tool – it can detect PUPs like ProductiveOperation, and then remove all of their components.
