'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' Pop-Up

Fraudulent Web browser pop-ups may often be used to promote fake technical support services, which are nothing more than a tactic whose goal is to take money from users. In some cases, these pop-ups also might be used to promote certain pieces of software – as is the case with the 'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' pop-up. These pop-ups are hosted on hxxp://winmanager.today, but they also might be spotted on other websites too. The pop-ups are designed to look like a virus warning, and they contain details about infected files in the system32 folder, as well as a ransomware threat that may encrypt the victim's data. Instead of advertising fake technical support services, the 'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' pop-up attempts to trick users into downloading a security software called 'Advanced PC Fixer'. The peculiar thing is that this application is not fake, but it is categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) so that you should think carefully before installing it.

The 'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' pop-up is not displayed by threats so that seeing it in your Web browser does not mean that you have a virus problem on your hands necessarily. However, it means that you've been browsing some low-quality websites, which might be used to promote websites that host dubious content such as the 'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' pop-up. Stay away from such Web pages, or to at least use a credible anti-malware software suite if they plan on browsing low-quality websites.

Keep in mind that the 'Ransomware 2.0; Trojan.Win32.SendIP.15' pop-up is unlikely to be linked to the Advanced PC Fixer PUP directly, and it might be one of their affiliates attempting to promote the product via shady methods.
