Ratty RAT
The Ratty RAT is a relatively old Remote Access Trojan (RAT) whose source code was released online. Allegedly, the original author deleted the project around 2017, but, unfortunately, this still meant that many other cybercriminals had a copy of Ratty RAT at their disposal. Due to this, many variants of the Ratty RAT have been circulating online. Unfortunately, many of them use up-to-date features that turn them into very evasive and threatening pieces of malware.
In general, the Ratty RAT is meant to provide remote attackers with the ability to execute a wide range of tasks on the infected system – they may use the implant to collect files, execute remote commands, log keystrokes, capture screenshots, use the Web camera or microphone and much more. Needless to say, having the Ratty RAT on your computer can have devastating results because the attackers may obtain information such as logins and payment info, and they may end up collecting personal files.
Protecting your system from threats like the Ratty RAT can be achieved by using an up-to-date anti-malware service, as well as being more careful with the files you interact with – avoid downloading them from non-trustworthy websites, and never engage with pirated games or software.
