Browser hijackers are known to modify your default home and search pages. However, the Ready Mail New Tab hijacks the tabs in your Google Chrome browser only. Nevertheless, it is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) because it still bombards PC users with tons of advertisements related to the search data it may have gathered. Freely available on the Google Chrome Extension Store, the Ready Mail New Tab is developed by a company named New Tab Tools. The latter also has developed a handful of other Chrome extensions offering all sorts of features such as uniting all your social media links (All Social), enriching your knowledge on religion (Daily Bible Reflection), travel guide information (Travel Buddy), etc. The Ready Mail New Tab extension, in particular, is designed to give you 'easy access to your email anytime, right on your new tab.' To do this, the Ready Mail New Tab sets every new Google Chrome tab to load the Ready Mail's homepage, which includes a custom search engine, as well as shortcut icons to the most popular email service providers out there.

Although the Ready Mail New Tab extension is available on the official Google Chrome store, it often weaves its way to PC systems using alternative distribution channels such as drive-by downloads or software bundles. The Ready Mail New Tab will not harm your computer directly because it is not a virus per si. It will, however, put out dozens of advertisements that match your search history, and some of these ads may contain unsafe content. Should you happen to click on a potentially dangerous banner, your machine may be likely to develop a severe threat infection. That is why security analysts generally advise against using obscure search engines and recommend that PC users pertain to popular players such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing, to name but a few.

Since the Ready Mail New Tab is a browser extension, you can simply disable it from the Chrome’s add-ons list before resetting the browser to its defaults and running a malware scan as a preventive measure.
