Registry Cleaner, also known as System Registry Cleaner, is a rogue computer cleanup application. Registry Cleaner is ostensibly designed to detect and repair registry errors, but is often downloaded and installed by a Trojan, through browser security holes, or via other unconventional and unethical mechanisms. Once installed, Registry Cleaner launches on Windows startup and may generate excessive popup advertisements. Registry Cleaner will also display notifications of imaginary registry errors in its attempts to get the user to purchase the full version.
