SearchLetters is an annoying and persistent piece of Mac adware that may drop its files onto your system even if you do not remember approving its installation. Naturally, a shady piece of software like this one does not have an official website or download location and, instead, it is being distributed online by using different tricks – it may be found in low-effort software bundles, bogus software installers, or being promoted via misleading advertisements that are too good to be true.

When SearchLetters is installed on a Mac computer, it will create a new 'Launch Daemon' to ensure that its files will be run again if the computer is restarted. It also sets up and configures a new 'Device Profile' that is dedicated to manipulating the Safari Web browser's default settings. The last step is meant to provide SearchLetters with the ability to change the default new tab and search engine that Safari uses, or to insert advertisements into active Web browsing sessions.
