SearchMine

Posted: September 12, 2019

SearchMine is a dubious piece of software whose installation may be completed silently and without the user's knowledge. According to reports from users who were affected by the changes that SearchMine brings, the program ended up on their computers when they were prompted to download an 'Adobe Flash Player Update' from a random website – this is a common trick used to spread adware, browser hijackers and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs). The SearchMine program falls in the browser hijacker category due to its ability to silently install itself, and then reconfigure the user's Web browser.

Apparently, SearchMine is compatible with popular Web browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. It also seems to be compatible with Mac's Safari since Mac users also reported having issues with a piece of software called SearchMine.

SearchMine.net Hijacker may Worsen Your Ability to Search the Web

The change that SearchMine brings is to set the Searchmine.net page as the Web browser's default new tab, homepage or search aggregator. Neither SearchMine nor the changes it brings are unsafe, but it is clear that many users will not be happy to have their browser reconfigured by an unknown piece of software.

If you think that the Searchmine.net page has made its way to your Web browser via fraudulent means, then we advise you to run a reputable security scanner that will help you identify and eradicate the SearchMine hijacker. To prevent future encounters with programs of this sort we advise you to use a reputable security tool, as well as to avoid downloading programs from unknown sources, especially if they claim to offer critical software updates.
