The Internet Speed Pilot is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that may be used to bring traffic to 'search.internetspeedpilot.com' and 'free.internetspeedpilot.com,' two low-quality search engines maintained by Safer Browser. The Internet Speed Pilot browser extension is used to provide users with quick access to a utility that allows them to measure their Internet speed and ping. While this may seem a useful feature, users who are keen to install the Internet Speed Pilot should know that there are many Web-based services that provide the same functionality without requiring the installation of 3rd-party software on the user's computer.

The Internet Speed Pilot doesn't just lack valuable features – its installation also may force the system default Web browser to use 'search.internetspeedpilot.com' or 'free.internetspeedpilot.com' as the default new tab page. Both of these pages lead to the same search engine, which delivers results via the Yahoo Search API.

Although neither the Internet Speed Pilot nor the search engines it is linked to are classified as threatening, we advise users to think twice whether they'd like to install and use the Internet Speed Pilot's services. As we already said, multiple Web-based services offer to test the user's Internet speeds, and they don't require the installation of any additional software or browser extensions. If you have the Internet Speed Pilot extension installed and it has modified new tab page already, then it might be a good idea to reconsider your decision to install this application. If you wish to uninstall the Internet Speed Pilot, you can do this from the list of installed Web browser extensions.
