ServerTest

ServerTest is an adware application that may use several different names for its files and folders, making it difficult for users to identify the exact source of the advertisements they may encounter during their Web browsing sessions. Some of the names that ServerTest may use are:

  • '1.0.0.1' – the name of the program's entry in the Windows Control Panel.
  • 'loadapp.exe' on the Desktop.
  • Folder 'ServerTest' in '%APPDATA%\Roaming.'
  • Folder 'YeaDesktop' and executable 'YeaDesktop.exe.'

The latter entry uses a name identical to YeaDesktop.com, but there does not appear to be anything to link the ServerTest adware with Yeadesktop.com, a faulty search engine linked to a browser hijacker application.

Adware applications like ServerTest are crafted with one sole purpose – to ensure that users who install them will end up seeing a large number of advertisements whenever they attempt to use their default Web browser. The content of these advertisements is likely to vary a lot, and it is entirely possible that many of ServerTest's ads may contain links to harmful or fraudulent Web destinations. It is not uncommon for low-quality adware to lure users to online technical support tactics, fake software products and other misleading pages.

Even if users manage to identify ServerTest as the source of the advertisements, removing it manually might turn out to be an impossible task. This is because the authors of ServerTest have implemented a CAPTCHA code that must be resolved when users attempt to uninstall the application via the Windows Control Panel. While this may sound easy, the CAPTCHA code is written in Chinese so that most users would find it impossible to enter the exact characters seen in the image. That's why sometimes the only way to remove ServerTest would be with the help of a credible anti-malware tool.
