Seznam

Seznam is an interesting Potentially Unwanted Program, which appears to be the product of a Czech-based software developer. This utility seems to travel in software bundles, and its installer might bring the Media Player Classic Home Cinema to the user's computer – a safe and trustworthy video player. However, another change that security researchers noticed is that the Seznam's installer might introduce two browser extensions to the user's browser. While this is usually not a major thing, the case with Seznam is a bit different because both of these add-ons demand a broad range of permissions to work:

  • Modify data on websites the user visits.
  • Replace the new tab page.
  • Read and modify browsing history.
  • Read the clipboard (copying and pasting).
  • Detect the user's location.
  • Manage applications, themes, and extensions.

The two extensions are called Seznam dplnek – Email and Seznam doplnek – Esko. The former appears to be a tool meant to help users check their email inbox, while the purpose of the second one is to assist the user by providing them with access to currency converters, translators, and other convenient utilities. However, these extensions have an interface in Czech and their reputation is questionable, so English-speaking users should definitely stay away from them.

The removal of Seznam and the extensions that accompany is recommended, and it can be accomplished either manually or with the assistance of a suitable PC security tool.
