Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

The SimplyGen Toolbar is a Potentially Unwanted Program that makes changes to your browser settings enabling the display of new advertisements. With the SimplyGen Toolbar's features not being advantageous to the user, malware researchers find little to recommend about this toolbar, and would consider deleting the SimplyGen Toolbar to be in the best interest of your browser. While the SimplyGen Toolbar still is installed, you should be mindful of advertisement-delivered PC threats, such as mislabeled download packages, which are typically delivered through pop-ups and other types of advertisement content launched by the SimplyGen Toolbar automatically.
The SimplyGen Toolbar: Simply Put, a Generic Problem for Your Web Browser
As an adware program that doesn't have anything resembling a normal marketing plan or distribution methodology, the SimplyGen Toolbar is another example of software developers trying to make fast money at the expense of their user bases. The SimplyGen Toolbar often, but not exclusively is installed through software bundles, using the brand name recognition of unrelated products as an excuse to get a foothold into new PCs. Freeware sites known for distributing bundles including adware or browser hijackers, naturally, should be avoided as likely sources of an unwanted SimplyGen Toolbar.
The SimplyGen Toolbar often is quickly identified by its pop-up advertisements, which the SimplyGen Toolbar begins displaying soon after its installation – no matter what sites you're browsing at the time. Other advertisement-based functions that malware researchers also have found to crop up during a SimplyGen Toolbar's activities include:
- Modifying Web pages to load hyperlinks for third party advertisements.
- Modifying Web pages to display banners and other graphics-based advertising.
Along with its own problems, a SimplyGen Toolbar also may bring other troubles with the SimplyGen Toolbar in the form of affiliated PUPs. The Complitly search hijacker is one of the most common PUPs installed along with a SimplyGen Toolbar. Complitly, as you might assume from its classification, changes your browser's settings to redirect your Web searches to other sites. Of course, none of these functions benefit you except in the sense that you may feel more virtuous by letting your browser give unknown software developers free money.
Why Ditching a SimplyGen Toolbar isn't So Simple
The SimplyGen Toolbar isn't as risky as actual threats that are meant to attack your PC persistently and directly, but still is a likely source of varied security problems, as are all adware programs that load third party advertisements arbitrarily. While you're dealing with the inevitable pop-ups and other advertisements delivered by a SimplyGen Toolbar, malware researchers would particularly caution against installing any unusual software promoted by these advertisements. This includes updates, codec packages and other downloads, even for popular and trustworthy brands of software.
Removing most add-ons is as simple as heading straight to your browser's plugin-managing settings and going from there, but the SimplyGen Toolbar, like most adware, has proven more intractable to removal than the SimplyGen Toolbar should be. Deleting a SimplyGen Toolbar through the scanning features of good anti-malware software is much simpler than trying to isolate its files and browser changes individually – and is more likely to remove any associated PC threats that may be responsible for why the SimplyGen Toolbar is on your hard drive at all.
