Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Splintersearch.com is a low-quality search engine that may be set as your Web browser's default homepage and new tab page by a browser extension that you've authorized to perform this change unknowingly. Browser extensions that change the browser's configuration are usually referred to as browser hijackers since this describes the actions they perform perfectly. Having the Splintersearch.com page set as your default new tab page or homepage is not a security concern since this website is not linked to any threatening content or associated with security risks. However, using its search feature may deliver different results compared to reputable search engines like Bing, Yahoo or Google.
One peculiar thing about Splintersearch.com is that it does not use a custom search algorithm. Instead, all users who hit the 'Search' button are redirected to Snap.do, another search engine that is linked to a browser hijacker and is considered to be unreliable. The browser hijacker linked to both Snap.do and Splintersearch.com may often be found in software bundles that claim to offer users the opportunity to install a useful browser extension that is supposed to enhance the browser's performance and functionality. However, agreeing to install this software may often result in potentially unwanted changes such as the inclusion of Splintersearch.com in your Web browser's settings.
If you are greeted by Splintersearch.com whenever you attempt to access your homepage or launch a new tab, then it might be in your best interest to identify and remove the browser extension responsible for this. Tech-savvy users might be able to handle this task manually by uninstalling the unnecessary extension from the list of browser extensions. However, the recommended method to remove browser hijackers is to run a credible cyber security software suite.
