SystemHelper

Most adware nowadays is meant to work on Windows computers only since this is the most widely spread operating system, but it seems that more and more con artists are focusing on developing adware that runs on Mac systems as well. This is not a big surprise since many Mac users tend to avoid installing 3rd-party security tools, and they may be prone to adware infections. Having adware on your computer is not a major security concern, but it is an issue that you would want to get resolved as soon as possible, certainly.

Such adware may often arrive on your system unannounced – this may happen when you download a bogus installer/updater, or if you end up using a software bundle that is meant to deliver 3rd-party tools such SystemHelper, the piece of adware we are discussing today.

As the name of the adware implies, it is meant to trick users into thinking that this is an essential system utility that should not be disabled – this is a basic trick that adware and malware developers often use to make it less likely that their victims will suspect anything about the bogus application.

While SystemHelper is running, it will look for active Web browser instances, and then insert advertisements into them. It is recommended to put a stop to this behavior by running a security scanner that will identify and remove all of SystemHelper's components.
