Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K is a rootkit Trojan that affects the targeted computer's VBR (volume boot record) to load and execute other Alureon rootkit components. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K is generated by certain variations of the Win32/Alureon family of data-stealing Trojans, such as Trojan:Win32/Alureon.FE. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K can cause search hijacking and browser hijacking by modifying the affected computer user's search results in any search engine and changing DNS settings for the purpose of redirecting the compromised web browser to suspicious advertising websites without the victims awareness. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.K hides itself on the compromised PC to avoid detection and removal its various components by anti-virus software.
