Threat Metric

The Threat Meter is a malware assessment that SpywareRemove.com's research team is able to give every identifiable malware threat. Our Threat Meter includes several criteria based off of specific malware threats to value their severity, reach and volume. The Threat Meter is able to give you a numerical breakdown of each threat's initial Threat Level, Detection Count, Volume Count, Trend Path and Percentage Impact. The overall ranking of each threat in the Threat Meter is a basic breakdown of how all threats are ranked within our own extensive malware database. The scoring for each specific malware threat can be easily compared to other emerging threats to draw a contrast in its particular severity. The Threat Meter is a useful tool in the endeavor of seeking a solution to remove a threat or pursue additional analytical research for all types of computer users.

The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:

Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.

Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.

Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.

Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.

% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Trojan.Gen.3 is a generic detection for Trojans that have not yet had specific identification listings created. This may apply to unrecognized updates of previous PC threats, brand-new PC threats or old PC threats that simply have not been distributed widely enough to be analyzed. Although generic, a Trojan.Gen.3 detection should not be taken as harmless, since Trojans that fall under the umbrella of Trojan.Gen.3 may be capable of various attacks, including creating backdoor vulnerabilities, installing other malware or stealing sensitive information. Unless you have a good reason to believe that a Trojan.Gen.3 alert is a false positive, SpywareRemove.com malware researchers recommend deleting Trojan.Gen.3 immediately and with relevant anti-malware tools regardless of its contents.

Trojan.Gen.3: the Trojans with No Names

Just as an anonymous terrorist is not necessarily less dangerous than a confirmed serial killer with a known name, Trojan.Gen.3 is no less potentially hazardous to your PC than PC threats like Trojan Zeus, Conficker, Changeup or OpenCloud Antivirus. As a generic label that can be applied to many types of Trojans, Trojan.Gen.3 doesn't have specific characteristics but includes functions that are harmful to your PC. Some of the most likely characteristics of any given example of Trojan.Gen.3 Trojans may include:

Installation methods that use dishonest techniques, such as concealed software bundles, drive-by-downloads that install Trojan.Gen.3 automatically through your browser or mislabeled download links.
Registry changes that may allow Trojan.Gen.3 or other malware to be launched automatically.
Registry changes that impede your use of security programs or features. In extreme cases, Trojan.Gen.3 may even block a program entirely.
Browser issues, such as poor loading times, homepage hijacks, redirects to unrecognized search engines, pop-ups or changes in an unrelated website's content.
The attempted theft of personal information. Account login names and passwords are particularly common targets.
The installation of other, specialized malware. Versions of Trojan.Gen.3 that perform this attack may be designed solely to enable the distribution and installation of these secondary PC threats, which include specific functions related to how the infected PC is intended to be attacked.

A Specific Response to a Generic Computer Threat

Unless you have other reasons for considering a Trojan.Gen.3 alert to be a false positive (or inaccurate detection), you always should remove Trojan.Gen.3 from your PC as soon as possible once Trojan.Gen.3 is been detected. Ordinarily, the same anti-malware tools that detect Trojan.Gen.3 also should be able to remove Trojan.Gen.3 immediately. In cases where your anti-malware programs show problems with deleting Trojan.Gen.3 infections safely, SpywareRemove.com malware researchers recommend implementing additional security tactics, such as booting into Safe Mode, using the Command Prompt or loading your operating system from a peripheral device.

Since Trojan.Gen.3 may include functions allowing Trojan.Gen.3 to install other malware onto your PC, responding to a Trojan.Gen.3 infection promptly is recommended for keeping your PC's security issues to a minimum. Other PC threats often installed by Trojans, such as worms and rootkits, may include their own distribution and defense mechanisms that may make them more difficult to remove than Trojan.Gen.3, alone.
