TROJ_PIDIEF.USR

Posted: July 4, 2013

TROJ_PIDIEF.USR is a Trojan that is a part of the Blackhole Exploit Kit (BHEK) spam campaign attacking social networking website Pinterest and its users. TROJ_PIDIEF.USR is distributed via malicious spam email attachments sent by phishers. The targeted recipient receives the fake email message in his inbox. The deceptive email contains the Trojan TROJ_PIDIEF.USR, which poses as a real email from Pinterest, and informs the affected computer user about a successful password change. The bogus email message also carries a link that would permit the PC user to see the new password. If the victim clicks on the link, he is rerouted to various phishing websites. When the computer user opens the malicious file, it downloads a script found to be another malware threat. TROJ_PIDIEF.USR takes advantage of an Adobe TIFF vulnerability.
