Ultimate Shopping Search

Posted: February 9, 2017

The Ultimate Shopping Search is a browser extension that promises users to enhance their ability to search and navigate the Web by providing them with suitable suggestions and product offers depending on their interests and recent searches. However, what the official website of the Ultimate Shopping Search may forget to mention is that the extension achieves this by modifying the new tab page of the user's default Web browser to a 3rd-party search engine associated with the publishers of the Ultimate Shopping Search. The search engine in question is not unreliable since it provides search results exfiltrated from Yahoo Search. However, what the search page linked to the Ultimate Shopping Search does is that it may display marketing content to visitors, therefore generating ad revenue for the owners of the page & the Ultimate Shopping Search software. As you can already guess, this is not a very user-friendly strategy since it relies on forcing users to visit the Ultimate Shopping Search on a regular basis, and therefore boost the ad revenue that the page generates.

The good news is that this activity is not classified as harmful or corrupted, and users who have the Ultimate Shopping Search installed on their computers have nothing to worry about when it comes to security. The browser extension does not collect information, nor does it attempt to execute any potentially harmful operations. The only notable change that users of the Ultimate Shopping Search will notice is that their default new tab page will now lead them to a search engine that they have not heard of probably.

Due to the Ultimate Shopping Search lack of any real useful features, and that it's main function is to modify the Web browser's settings, the browser extension has been marked as a Potentially Unwanted Program by many cyber security product vendors. The removal the Ultimate Shopping Search is not an urgent matter, but performing this task sooner will help you restore your Web browser's default new tab page, and return to your usual browsing habits.
