Online con artists continue to improve their tactics to maximize the odds that random users will fall for them. One of the popular tactics used to hijack browser notifications involves displaying a fake video player, accompanied by a prompt saying 'Click Allow to play the video.' While this tactic already worked in many cases, it seems that the fraudsters were not satisfied with the results. They decided to improve it even further by introducing the tactic concept found on Vinphone.xyz. This website hosts a fake video player accompanied by a screenshot from a 'Disney' film – this may leave visitors under the impression that a full Disney movie is about to be played. However, they are once again told to click 'Allow' to play the video.
However, clicking the button will not result in allowing video playback and, instead, it will allow the Vinphone.xyz website to make use of your Web browser notifications. Of course, it will not use the feature to deliver relevant content – instead, the page focuses on promoting as many paid advertisements as possible, therefore generating revenue for the con artists behind it.
We counsel you always to be careful when a random website asks you to click 'Allow' – this scheme has become very popular in the past year, and dozens of new fraudulent pages are used to execute such a tactic on a daily basis.
