'We have installed one RaT software into your device' email scam is yet another sextortion tactic that may arrive in your inbox at any time, regardless of which country you reside in – the fraudsters are not picky about their targets, and they will send you an email as long as your address ends up in their mailing list. The 'We have installed one RaT software into your device' email scam claims that your computer has been infected by a threatening Trojan that was installed when you were browsing pornographic websites. The message goes on by saying that the criminals have obtained videos of you while you were browsing the sites in question. According to them, this content will be sent out to all your colleagues and friends on social media.

The con artists behind the 'We have installed one RaT software into your device' email scam also say that they have collected your passwords, and continue to monitor your computer and that changing passwords will not help you. Finally, they ask you to pay a $650 ransom fee and promise to delete the videos in return. The last intimidation they make is that you have 48 hours to comply before the videos are sent out.

The good news is that the 'We have installed one RaT software into your device' email scam is entirely fake, and there is no Trojan or private videos – the fraudsters are hoping to make you panic, and opting to pay a ransom fee. Nothing will happen if you do not pay, so it goes without saying that you should not consider this option.

If you receive the intimidating message in your email inbox, you should delete it and report the sender.
