Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Win32/Sirefef.DV is a member of the Sirefef family of Trojans that typically attack computers by causing web browser redirects and installing rogue security software, all with the aim of generating money from your actions. Because Win32/Sirefef.DV is rarely installed without the presence of other Sirefef-based PC threats and because Win32/Sirefef.DV itself may install rogue security programs, browser hijackers, etc, SpywareRemove.com malware experts strongly discourage attempts to remove Win32/Sirefef.DV without also trying to detect any other PC threats that can also be on your computer. Detecting Win32/Sirefef.DV by manual methods may prove to be difficult, since any specific Sirefef infection is very-likely to include several Sirefef components besides Win32/Sirefef.DV, all of which will attempt to conceal their presence from casual detection.
Win32/Sirefef.DV – Just One Finger in a Fist That's Aimed at Your PC
Win32/Sirefef.DV is only one of several Sirefef components that cooperate to coordinate attacks against an infected computer. Other components in a Win32/Sirefef.DV infection may be responsible for disabling your security software, changing your network settings, acquiring instructions from command servers or protecting Win32/Sirefef.DV and their fellow Sirefef Trojans. Win32/Sirefef.DV, however, confines its activities to being a downloader – a Trojan dropper that downloads and installs other PC threats onto your hard drive.
Even though Win32/Sirefef.DV can be instructed to download and install many types of malicious files, SpywareRemove.com malware researchers have found that Sirefef Trojans have a particular proclivity for utilizing:
- Browser hijackers that force your web browser towards sites that pay click-based revenue to Win32/Sirefef.DV's hacker partners. Redirects may also display fake warning screens, redirect you to phishing sites or block your ability to load PC security sites.
- Rogue security programs that pretend to detect Trojans, spyware and other malicious files when they lack any ability to find or remove such PC threats. In most cases, rogue security programs like those that are installed by Win32/Sirefef.DV will request money in exchange for removing these nonexistent infections.
Backing Your Way Out of the Win32/Sirefef.DV Money-Making Scheme
Due to the multiple types of Sirefef Trojans that are nearly-certain to be on your PC whenever Win32/Sirefef.DV is about, SpywareRemove.com malware experts discourage attempts to find or delete Win32/Sirefef.DV by itself. Instead, a complete scan of your PC with competent anti-malware scanners should be able to detect Win32/Sirefef.DV, Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.P, Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.K, Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.O, Trojan.Dropper:Win32/Sirefef.B and other components of a Sirefef-based threat.
Even after removing all traces of Win32/Sirefef.DV's existence from your PC, you should be certain that your web-browsing settings have been reverted to normal prior to attempting to browse the web. Contact with sites that Sirefef Trojans promote can be a source of reinfection by Win32/Sirefef.DV and its fellows, and this may occur without visible symptoms due to script-based browser exploits.
